Here's a summary of the local IT related events scheduled for 2012...

For the first time, technology development, and with it infrastructure and education requirements, are being driven by the consumer, rather than the business, market. Our expectation is to move seamlessly from one technology 'framework' (home, work, leisure) to another, and businesses which don't support that will increasingly seem out-of-step.

Wi-Fi security should be a concern to anyone operating a Wi-Fi access point whether for home or corporate use. The risks to you (as an individual) and companies of not having correct Wi-Fi security are many and varied. This lecture will address this from several viewpoints. Dr John Abela, Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta and co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Maltese IT firm, Ascent Software, will speak at the next Digital Jersey event, taking place on 1st March at the Grand Hotel.
At the free event, which has been supported by Locate Jersey, Dr Abela will give the audience his insight into Malta's experience in developing its e-commerce sector in a presentation entitled, "E-Commerce - the Malta experience and how Jersey may benefit."

While general Internet research may appear simple, the World Wide Web can be very difficult to navigate when searching for timely, accurate and actionable intelligence. Most online researchers are unaware of how complex the Internet is, how much information they are missing and the risks they may be taking that could compromise their safety, integrity or privacy.

When, why and how to implement Automated UI Testing for improved quality and reduced human testing effort in the development of web applications (SharePoint included!). A number of options for creating, running, monitoring and measuring automated UI tests as part of the development lifecycle will be presented. Load Testing options and web-based solutions to assist will also be demonstrated.

JT have joined together with the BCS for a social networking evening and to bring you inspiring motivational speaker - Alan Chambers MBE.
Alan is an exciting, engaging speaker and will be talking about his amazing experiences, including leading a team to the North Pole, which highlights his remarkable focus and leadership skills. His talk includes many essential business skills, such as communication, winning beliefs and teamwork. At 32, Alan was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen for Determined Leadership in Constant Adversity.

Ten years ago, Guernsey Electricity embarked on a project which would transform the way it handled readings from electricity meters across the island. From concept to delivery, this entire project was managed, developed and delivered by using GEL's staff to produce an award winning system that will be completed in a few months time. With close to 30,000 meters needing to be changed, how was this achieved?
